How PDF to Word Conversion Works

PDFToolShack uses LibreOffice headless to convert your PDF to an editable Word document. LibreOffice is the industry-standard open-source office suite used by millions worldwide. It analyses the PDF’s text, layout, and structure to produce a .docx file that can be opened and edited in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, or any compatible application.

Conversion quality depends on the original PDF. Text-based PDFs (created digitally from Word, InDesign, etc.) convert with good fidelity. Scanned PDFs (images of pages) cannot be converted directly — use our PDF OCR tool first to extract the text, then copy it into Word.

Complex multi-column layouts, tables, and special formatting may require manual adjustment after conversion. This is a limitation of all PDF-to-Word converters, not just ours.

Why doesn’t the Word doc look exactly like the PDF?
PDF and Word are fundamentally different formats. PDFs describe exactly where every element is positioned; Word uses flow-based layout. Complex layouts with columns, text boxes, and precise positioning will never convert perfectly — some manual cleanup is expected. Simple text-heavy PDFs convert with high fidelity.
Can I convert a scanned PDF?
Not directly — scanned PDFs are images, not text. Use our PDF OCR tool first to extract the text from the scan, then copy the result into a Word document.
Is my file secure?
Yes. Files are transferred over HTTPS, converted immediately, and automatically deleted within 60 minutes. They are never stored permanently or shared with third parties.
What is the file size limit?
